Representing The School District

On The Council

To the Editor

I am a candidate for the Legislative Council District 2, and I have always been a strong supporter of education. I fully understand the value of quality education as I work with clients who are relocating to this region. The first and most important question a prospective home buyer asks is, “What is the quality of the school system?” Quality schools protect our property values.

The Legislative Council approves the school budget and then sends it to the voters. The council also has a role in the capital request process which involves our educational infrastructure. I believe the school district deserves a representation on the Legislative Council which is supportive of our students, staff and the Board of Education. They all have difficult roles in the education process. They have to tackle tough problems and make very hard decisions, some popular and some not. They often have to make painful decisions (many issues related to education tend to be emotional for the community) to manage their allowed expenditure. These individuals are dedicated to providing the best quality education they can with the budget dollars the Legislative Council and the taxpayers provide. Our test scores show that they do a remarkable job at one of the lowest costs in the state.

I have a long history of supporting our education system. Educated children are the economic future of our county. As a Legislative Council member, I would be a strong voice for our school system. At the same time, it is critical to review each dollar requested and ensure that our tax dollars are being spent wisely. I will strive to continuously find value for the services provided.

I do not believe that the way to achieve these goals is to constantly criticize those who are working tirelessly to deliver quality education. Constant criticism reduces morale and can impact the quality of our education system. The education system needs our constructive support and our watchful eye. Not a free pass, but support. I will keep the interest of our education community front and center while participate in careful budget reviews to protect our taxpayers.

I believe I am the right choice for true leadership on the Legislative Council District 2. I would appreciate your support on November 8.
