NVCC Offers New

SAT Prep Course

WATERBURY — SAT season has started again, and for the first time Naugatuck Valley Community College is offering a single course to help students prepare for all three sections of the newly revamped college aptitude exam.

NVCC’s new SAT preparation course covers the math, English, and essay portions of the exam, combining instructional materials from the College Board online with classroom and home based study.

NVCC is offering two sections of its new SAT preparation course that begins October 8, one on the main campus in Waterbury off Exit 18 on Interstate 84 and the other at the Danbury Training Center, 12 Crosby Street in Danbury. Both courses wrap up on October 29, just one week before the next SAT is offered on November 5.

NVCC is offering a third section beginning October 22 on the main campus in Waterbury that runs through November 19, two weeks before the SAT is offered on December 3.

The new course starts with students taking a practice test in a supervised computer lab and receiving an immediate assessment of their skills in all three testing subjects, which is then used to create a personalized study plan. That is followed up by six classroom sessions where students review problem solving strategies and test taking methods and refine their essay skills. The course ends with students returning to the computer lab to take a post test assessment that is used to revise the personalized preparation plan, which students take home.
