Children’s Programs:

Mother Daughter Book Club: The C.H. Booth Library is pleased to offer a series of Mother Daughter book discussions for girls in grades 3-4. The third book in this four-part series is Number The Stars by Lois Lowry. Multiple copies of the book are available in the children’s department. The discussion will take place on Wednesday, November 8, at 7 pm in the library meeting room. This program is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Humanities Council and the Friends of the Library. Pat Miniter, a 31-year veteran of New Haven school system, will lead the discussions. A signup sheet is available in the children’s department. Space is limited to 25 mother/daughter pairs.

Story Hour Registration: Register for the next series of story hours for two year olds and 3-5 year olds beginning October 23 and continuing through the 31. Participants must be 2 or 3 years of age before November 6. Forms are available in the children’s department. No phone registrations will be accepted. Adult Programs

Mystery Lovers! The Mystery Lovers’ Book Discussion Group will be concluding on Tuesday, November 7, with One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. A limited number of copies of this title are available at the library. The library is considering continuing this series with some new mystery authors so if you have a favorite author or mystery you’d like to discuss with other mystery lovers please let us know. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Please join us for a fun evening.

Calling all Knitters: Susan Shaw is teaching a beginner’s knitting class on Wednesdays, Oct 18, 25, November 1 and 8 at 12:15 pm. Knitters will learn how to make mittens. Supplies needed are either size 8 (adult) single pointed needles or size 10 (child) single pointed needles, a yarn needle, two yarn holders, and 4 oz. of worsted weight yarn. Author Talk on Healing Power of Touch: Linda Napier, a registered nurse, will be giving a talk on her book, Tender Medicine: Touching the Heart, Healing the Hurt, on Tuesday, November 14, at 7:30 pm. This book is for medical professionals, patients, and the people who love them. Linda’s words illuminate the connection between touch, love, and health. With a clear easy style, Linda will share personal experiences, then follows up with concise summaries and practical guides for making life-changing choices. The book will be available for purchase at the talk.

 Monthly Book Discussion: Join us at the library on Thursday, November 16, at 7:30 pm in the special collections room for what promises to be a stimulating and enlightening discussion of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s extraordinary book, No Ordinary Time, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World WarII. Bringing to bear the tools of both history and biography, as well as her talent for capturing larger than life characters, Ms Goodwin relates the unique story of how Franklin Roosevelt led the nation to military victory abroad against insurmountable odds, forever changing the fabric of American society. If you need a copy of this book the library has reserved a limited number.

Senior Transitions: The Homesteads at Newtown is sponsoring an exciting new seminar series which will be continuing on November 16, at 2 pm at the library. The topic will be “The Transition Process: Traumas of Moving Madness.” The series is free and refreshments will be served.
