Taking The Scenic Routes

To the Editor:

On Sunday, September 24, Newtown Youth Services held Family Bikes, Blades, and Boards Day with about 90 participants enjoying the beautiful, scenic routes of Fairfield Hills and surrounding countryside. We appreciate the support of the community for this event and it is always a pleasure to see families out together sharing some fun. Even though the rain clouds were peeking in and out, it was a beautiful day for being outdoors whether on roller blades, skateboards, bikes, tricycles, or the latest wheels – scooters.

In recognition of all the work that went into making the day a success, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the following: Don’s Cycle of Fairfield for the great first prize scooter, Duracell for backpacks filled with goodies, Ski Market, TC Cycle, the Bicycle Goodie Shop, Bethel Cycle and Fitness, and Pepsi for the other wonderful prizes; Blue Jay Orchards, Dunkin Donuts, Bagelman, Dannon/Evian Water, Big Y, and Grand Union for their generous food stops; Tunxis Management at Fairfield Hills; the Board of Ed; and The Newtown Bee for helping us to promote our event; the Newtown Congregational Church and Bob Tendler Real Estate for the use of their equipment; Parks and Recreation; the Newtown Highway Department; and the Sandy Hook Fire Department; as well as Tim Gordon and Tyler Stowell for helping out.

Lastly, we truly appreciate the efforts of Bob Stowell and Bob Burkhart, who co-chaired the event for the fifth year; the combined efforts of the NYS board members and the Youth Advisory Board and other volunteers, who helped to make this a most enjoyable family day.

Sincerely,

The Newtown Youth Services Staff,

Deborah W. Richardson, Director

Jane Todorski, Assistant Director

Anita Arnold, Office Manager

Roseanne Loring, Program/Parent Ed. Coord.
