The Newtown Winterset Ski Club will begin its 2000-2001 season with its annual Kick-Off Meeting and Raffle Night on Friday, November 10, at 7:30 pm, at the Sandy Hook Firehouse on Riverside Road.

Information on the club’s bus trips, weekend and week-long trips, and membership will be available at that time. The club sponsors trips to a variety of mountains in the northeast, midwest, and even outside of the United States.

Prospective members interested in joining are welcome. Numerous prizes, including gift certificates and ski tickets to many different mountains, will be raffled off to members and new members who register prior to the raffle.

Refreshments will be served.

For further information, call Chris Lincoln at 426-8726 or Linda Vitrella at 270-0431.

30th Holiday Party

A dinner dance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the club will be held on Friday, December 15, at the Colonial Tavern in Oxford. The club will be honoring its founders and charter members and is invited all current and previous club members to attend.

Bill and Liz Meyer of Mount Pleasant Road have been with the club since its inception at St. Rose Church in 1970. Their children and grandchildren are active members of the club, also. Bill and his family have volunteered their time through the years, holding posts such as president, treasurer, secretary, social chair and bus trip coordinator.

According to Bill, Winterset was started as a family-oriented club emphasizing day bus trips, skiing education, and safety. Winterset has grown over the years and has a larger membership consisting of singles as well as families, snowboarders and skiers ranging from extreme experts to casual beginners.

Membership in the club is inexpensive and offers affordable and subsidized trips and the eligibility to purchase tickets to many popular mountains as discounted rates.

Anyone interested in joining can contact Mike O’Toole, membership chairman, at 1-203-888-7007 or 1-203-888-3921. Or email him at otollem@prodigy.net
