Summer Art And Science Programs

BRIDGEPORT — The Discovery Museum will be offering summer programs for preschoolers and elementary school students in July and August. Programs in art and science will run in various weekly sessions from July 10 through August 25.

The programs for preschoolers include:

“Me and My Baby/Super Tots:” Preschoolers are introduced to many fun activities such as music and movement and storytelling. Sessions will be offered for children ages 6 to 12 months, 13 months to 20 months, and 20 months to 3 years.

“Wonder Tots:” Through their explorations in science, math and art, children will develop concepts and skills that will better prepare them for elementary education. Two sessions will be offered, one for children 3 years old and the second for ages 4 and 5.

“Summer Adventures” is an adventure-filled program with a different theme each week and lots of creative projects for children ages 4 to 5 years.

The programs for elementary school children include:

“Space Adventure:” Student astronauts will build a model rocket, design a space suit for an egg, conduct hands-on experiments and much more as they train for a simulated space mission to Mars. Sessions are for students entering fifth to eighth grades.

“Art, Science & Imagination:” Children in first to third grades use theater, storytelling, science experiments and crafts to explore the world with a different theme each week, highlighted by a performance.

“Robots:” Students learn about the science of robotics — the design, mechanics and the circuitry. For students entering fifth to eighth grades.

In “Our World,” students in fourth to sixth grades will discover the world, its people and cultures through cultural stories, arts and crafts, including special performances each Friday.

“Rocketry:” Beginner and advanced classes where students build and launch their own rockets. Sessions are for students entering fourth to seventh grades.

“Girls Rule” is a science adventure designed by and for girls entering fifth to seventh grade.

“Television Workshop:” Students learn what happens behind the scenes of a television production as they write, direct and produce a television show that will air on cable access TV. The workshop is for children in grades 4 to 9.
