‘Wild Ginger’ At Institute For American Indian Studies

WASHINGTON — The Institute for American Indian Studies (IAIS) will offer a special class on “Wild Ginger” by the well-known ethnobotanist, author and illustrator E. Barrie Kavasch. Ms Kavasch will give her presentation from noon to 1 pm on Sunday, March 5, at the museum.

She will also be available to personally sign copies of some of her most recent publications which include Earth Wise: American Indian Uses of Native Trees, American Indian Healing Arts: Herbs, Rituals, and Remedies for Every Season of Life and American Indian EarthSense: Herbaria of Ethnobotany and Ethnomycology.

Ms Kavasch is an authority on American Indian cultures, cuisines, ethnobotany, ethnomycology, healing and spirituality. She facilitates drum making workshops, drumming circles, spirituality gatherings, medicine, wheel workshops and shamanic journey work regularly for IAIS. She teaches, lectures, consults and gives courses across the country and internationally.

She has curated numerous gallery shows and exhibitions, and her own works are in various galleries and private collections around the world.

Ms Kavasch is a member of American Society of Botanical Artists and Herb Society of America as well as IAIS. She supports many other organizations and American Indian causes.

The fee for this class is $12, and reservations are recommended. Call 860/868-0518 to reserve. Connecticut Educators may earn .1 CEU by participating. The museum is at 38 Curtis Road.
