LAPADA OBJECTS OF DESIRE MAY 10-13

ak/gs set 12-28 #682536

LONDON — LAPADA, the association of art and antiques dealers, has announced the second staging, from May 10–13, of Objects of Desire, its highly successful central London antiques and art fair, by arrangement with the Royal Academy of Arts, at 6 Burlington Gardens.

Launched to great acclaim in May 2006, and organized by DMG Antiques Fairs, LAPADA’s Objects of Desire drew more than 9,000 visitors to its inaugural event, including the best-attended opening night party yet seen at the Burlington Gardens venue. The central location and innovative marketing ensured a large number of visitors who had never visited an antiques fair before. Many dealers at the launch event commented they were selling to younger customers and local professionals, as well as wealthy local residents who would not dream of shopping outside the West End.

Some 70 leading dealers from the UK and Europe will exhibit at the 2007 fair, with an even better mix of fine traditional and contemporary art, quality furniture, exquisite jewelry, silver, glass, ceramics and sculptures, and a selection of Twentieth Century design. Prices range from around $200 to well over $200,000 for important collectors’ items.

New exhibitors in 2007 include: Moira of Bond Street (jewelry), Sylvia Powell (decorative arts), Galerie Arabesque (works of art and textiles, Germany) George Babbington (works on paper), Didier Antiques (Art Nouveau jewelry) and Dorine van Heerdt Tot Eversberg (medieval manuscripts, Holland).

LAPADA dealers who made the first fair such a success are also returning, such as Wakelin & Linfield (fine and decorative furniture), John Jaffa (works of art), Langfords (silver), Lacewing (affordable and fine art), Clase Fine Art (European art), W.R. Harvey (English furniture), Ben Cooper (Oriental works of art), Wimpole (jewelry), Neptune Fine Art (specialists in L.S. Lowry), Jeroen Markies (Art Nouveau and Art Deco furniture) and Shapiro (objets vertu and jewelry).

Objects of Desire will be a glamorous occasion for collectors to acquire works of art of the highest craftsmanship, at a most convenient location.
