âHodieâ To Highlight
Choral Societyâs Holiday Concert
Organist Phil Crevier will be accompanying Newtown Choral Society when it performs Strookâs Hodie on Saturday, December 2, at 7:30 pm, at Newtown Meeting House. The choir will be under the direction of Mary Adreotta.
Mr Crevier has been the organist for Newtown Congregational Church for four years. He holds bachelors degrees in computer science and music from Trinity College. He is an Internet developer for American Scandia.
Mr Crevier remembers that he wanted to play the organ from an early age âin second grade when he first discovered music. Because organists use their feet as well as their hands to play the organ, he had to wait several years before actually playing. By the time he was 13, he was playing for church services.
Mr Crevier lives in Newtown with his wife Nancy and their children, Katie Rose and Nathan.
Also accompanying the choir for the performance of Hodie will be percussionists Nick Albano and Chris Riviera, from the WestConn music program, and the choirâs regular accompanist, Mae Steinberg.
The program on December 2 will also include seasonal songs from Spain and Nigeria. For the African songs the choir will be accompanied by Jan Gregory on African drum. Songs in the Celtic style and traditional carols arranged by John Rutter will round out the program.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 12, and will be available at the door.
