The Newtown Health District is now fully staffed with the appointment of a new sanitarian, according to Director Donna McCarthy.
Michael Carey of Middlebury began his duties with the Health Department on August 6.
Mr Carey grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Holy Cross High School. He earned his bachelorâs degree in biology from Providence College and his masterâs degree in public health from Yale.
Among his duties with the Health District are review of plans and inspection of waste disposal and water supply systems and inspection of food service establishments.
Mr Carey and his wife Jan have a daughter, Flannery, 19, a college student.
He has been a licensed sanitarian since 1986. He previously was employed by the Waterbury Health Department and prior to that was employed as a consultant. He began his career in 1985 with the Connecticut Department of Health.
