CH’I CONTEMPORARY FINE ART ‘FUGUE STATE’ CHRISTINE SCIULLI

ak/gs set 12/12 #722322

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Ch’i Contemporary Fine Art will host the second incarnation of the “Fugue State: Circus” January 6–February 3. On Friday, January 11, from 6 to 9 pm, there will be an opening reception with the artist at the gallery’s Williamsburg locations, 293 Grand Street.

Exploring the fugue state on a macro level as it relates to the cultural identity of the United States, artist Christine Sciulli uses her projections of light and video installations to convey the present zeitgeist. Part Two of the “Fugue State, Circus” examines the elements of the circus as it relates to themes of escape, bravery, distended joviality and roguishness.

At the epicenter of “Fugue State: Circus” is a waterlogged chaise longue, surrounded by circus imagery in a seemingly vacuous space defined by projections of light to create “phantom” objects.

Sciulli is a video/installation artist working in New York City. She received her MFA from Hunter College in combined media and holds an architectural engineering degree from Penn State University. In addition to her solo show at Ch’i, upcoming projects for 2008 include “Plugged In” an interactive public art show in Hudson, N.Y.
