Easter Egg Hunt Awash With Hidden Treasures

By Kendra Bobowick

March 15 found troops of children grabbing at pastel, plastic Easter eggs that were filled with candy and trinkets and strewn across the lawn and tennis court at Dickinson Park. The Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Easter egg hunt brought out the children — many dressed in bunny ears — and the empty baskets that soon filled with goodies. Many parents held video or digital cameras to record their children’s rush to fill their Easter baskets.

Before stepping from beneath the pavilion and marching up the hill still slick with rain from earlier that morning and onto the tennis court, Brianna and Bridget Lovely and Richard Guman earned an early treat from the Easter Bunny. Actually, two Easter Bunnies greeted guests Saturday with large baskets of eggs, candy, and treats that they shared. The Easter Bunny was also first through the gate and led a line of eager children onto the court and then helped as they hunted for eggs.

Momentarily surprised by the rush of activity as the hunt began were Audrey Trahan and Sommer Callen, who both soon gathered a stash of eggs. Across the net on the other side of the court was Melissa Schne who smartly set her Easter bag — not basket — on the ground and used two hands to grab and hold as many eggs as she could before adding them to her stash.

Samantha DelGuidice ran across the court, hair tangling in the breeze, as she headed without hesitation from one egg to the next. Also focused on getting eggs into their baskets were Jessica Cocivi, and Amelia Carney.

Sauntering back down the hill to the pavilion after the hunt were Ailish Roche and Audrey and Kyle Trahan following their father Pete Trahan. The small group would join the many clusters of parents and children, including Aaron and Christi Carlson and their daughter Ava, who were all spilling their eggs on the picnic tables and cracking them open to find the prize inside. Inspecting a toy camera she had pulled from the inside one of her eggs was Aleigha Procaccini.

Holding a plastic carrot, stuffed animal, and pouch filled with candy was Faith Walker, who had found the special carrot hidden with the Easter eggs.
