Pauline M. Gordon, 74, formerly of Newtown, died September 22 at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, Calif. She was the daughter of Edward and Emiline Theriault of Rumford, Maine.

After her education she moved to Connecticut where she played with the professional softball team, The Raybestos Brakettes.

Upon moving to Newtown with her family she was employed by Fairfield Hills Hospital for 30 years.

Mrs Gordon was very active with the Little League in town, becoming the first female coach. She coached beside Don Skalandunas, Guy Cullen, Dr Hank Gellert, and others. She also coached Park and Recreation girls’ basketball, as well as refereed.

She was an avid sports fan, especially for the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies basketball teams.

She was a member of St Rose Catholic Church.

Mrs Gordon is survived by her children, Brenda Locke of Newtown, Linda Burckhard and husband, Doug, of California, Bruce Gordon of Florida, and Timothy Gordon and wife, Sarah, of Oklahoma; her beloved grandchildren, Erica Locke, Jim, Danielle, Lauren, and Mike Burckhard, and Stephanie and Kristina Gordon. A sister, Sylvina Mahar of Maine; brothers, Edward DeRoches of Florida and her twin, Paul Theriault of Maine; as well as several nieces and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by a sister, Ella Derrah; brothers, Victor DeRoches and Adrian Theriault; nephews, Mark Derrah and Paul Theriault; niece, Sharon Theriault; and her son-in-law, Richard Locke.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
