Rock Ridge Country Club golf highlights from this past week:

Men’s League: This week’s winner was Jason Campbell, followed by Rob Merrifiled in second place,

and Frank Colavito in third.

Solheim Cup: Once again, the biggest tournament of the year for the ladies of Rock Ridge came down to the wire. Two ten-woman teams competed against each other in two 9-hole matches for this year’s Solheim Cup. Team Black (consisting of Debby Tendler, Suzanne Spicci, Sarah Cappelli, Sarah Roman, Chris Mais, Julie Davies, Debra Gersten, Barb Taylor, Joan Calbo, and Susan Portnoy) jumped out to a commanding lead, winning all five matches in the first nine’s scramble format.

With a 10-0 lead, it seemed this competition was over, but golf has a funny way of proving everyone wrong. Team White (consisting of Janet Duffy, Karen Alexander, Jayne Dubraski, Susan Wallace, Pam Campbell, Kathy Fetchick, Leslie Trudell, Ann Feltch, Lucy Kortze, and Dawn Briggs) took the first four matches, making the score 12-10 in favor of Team White. The final match would determine this year’s winners. Campbell and Fetchick found themselves two down with two to play to Roman and Cappelli. A halve or an outright win for Campbell and Fetchick would give Team White the victory and one of the biggest comebacks in Solheim Cup history; an outright win for Roman and Cappelli would give Team Black the victory. In fitting fashion, Campbell and Fetchick clawed their way back to halve the match, making Team White the winners. Final score Team White 13.5-Team Black 11.5.
