NEW FAIRFIELD â Ruth Newquist will be the featured artist for October at The Barn Galley.
Mrs Newquist, of Newtown, will be present for the exhibitionâs opening reception on Saturday, September 29, from 2 to 4 pm, for the opening of her show, entitled âNew England/New York.â All are invited to attend.
Ruth Newquist is known for her oils and watercolors of New York cityscapes as well as New England landscapes. She may be familiar to many New Fairfield residents because she was an art teacher in the New Fairfield High School for 22 years.
Mrs Newquist picks subjects that appeal to her because of their color or light falling on them to portray in her paintings.
She is an elected artist member of The National Watercolor Society, as well as Allied Artists of America and the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City. Mrs Newquist has won numerous awards from prestigious organizations including the Salmagundi Club, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and North East Watercolor Society.
Her work was featured on the watercolor pages of American Artist Magazine in June 1999. She is also represented in Best of Watercolor III, a hard cover book published by Rockport Publishers in 1999 and Splash 12, a hardcover boor published in 2011.
