A judged pleasure ride â consisting of a trail ride and obstacle course â will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 9 am to 12:30 pm, at the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard facilities on the grounds of Fairfield Hills.
The event is open to all horse owners, but reservations are required. The event will benefit the Second Company as well as the various community programs it undertakes â such as Saddle Up For Life, a special needs therapeutic riding project, and Swim Across the Sound.
âItâs going to be a great day of fun for a good cause,â said Lieutenant Mike Safarewitz, the unitâs Chief of Staff and organizer of the event. âWe have eight to 10 miles of some of the best wooded trails in Connecticut and a very challenging obstacle course.â
Lieutenant Safarewicz went on to explain that the Horse Guard is primarily supported through charitable donations and is charged with promoting the equestrian arts as part of its charter.
Fee is $35 per rider and includes lunch (the fee is tax deductible). Riders will be timed on the trail ride and awarded points for each obstacle successfully completed. Ribbons will be awarded for those finishing in first through eighth places.
