Has Received $30,000 Grant
DANBURY â State Senator David J. Cappiello (R-Danbury) has announced that the State Office of Policy and Management has awarded a Danbury community-based cultural arts organization a $30,000 grant.
Command Performance, which hosted its debut concert in September 2000, aims to present high caliber classical music, jazz and dance events. The organization attempts to bring in artists and events from New York City, Boston and overseas, concentrating on artists that have not been sought after in the past by other area performing arts centers. Command Performance schedules events all over the greater Danbury area in order to bring events directly to each community.
âThe mission of Command Performance â to make available to children and all music lovers quality performances that will entertain, stimulate and inspire â is an admirable one,â said Sen Cappiello. âThis organization is providing a great service to area citizens, especially our children.
âIâm glad that representatives Mark Boughton, Bob Godfrey and Lew Wallace and I were able to assist Command Performance in securing these funds,â the senator continued.
The $30,000 grant was awarded to help Command Performance offset the artistic fees and expenses that arise out of staging high-level cultural events. The money will help keep admission prices reasonable for local residents and attract audiences from around Connecticut and New York.
âCommand Performance has shown an ongoing commitment to the Danbury region and to reflecting its ethnic diversity. This grant money will help the organization continue its good work,â said Sen Cappiello.
The next concert being presented by the organization will be The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All Stars, on Thursday, August 23, at 8 pm, at Ives Concert Hall. Call 825-3131 for details.
