Police Plan Crackdown At
Newtown Shopping Village
Starting on Memorial Day weekend, uniformed police plan to conduct periodic patrols at Newtown Shopping Village, the shopping center at 6 Queen Street where the Big Y supermarket is the anchor tenant.
The high visibility police patrols are intended to reduce illegal activity there. Police will be patrolling the premises in a joint effort with the shopping centerâs management, police said in a statement.
âOfficers in uniform will be focusing on vandalism, littering, trespassing, alcohol possession violations, and other prohibited activities occurring within the [shopping] center,â police said.
The planned patrols will continue through the end of the year, police said.
Because the shopping center is private property, the cost of such police patrols will be borne by the shopping center.
