Catherine M. Foster received a bachelor of science degree in earth science from Millersville University in Millersville, Penn., during spring commencement on May 2.

Rosemary Draper Gallant, a 1980 Newtown High School graduate, recently received national recognition from the US Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service in the form of a Telling the Export Story Award for aggressive, creative, and successful media outreach.

Ms Gallant, a foreign commercial service officer, served 11 years in China. Her seven-step guide, “The Small Fry Take On China: Learning From the Experiences of Others Can Help Small Businesses New to China Avoid Costly Mistakes: Keys to Business Success in China,” was published in the January-February 2003 edition of China Business Review and was well-received by the US Department of Commerce.

The following students recently graduated from the University of Connecticut in Storrs: Cristian Raul Petre, Diana J. Demont, Tara Ann Foster, Rebecca Bombero, Jessica Lynn Douyard, Brook Rypka, Corey Albert Galotta, Cara Marie O’Neill, and Ryan Todd.

Sharon Small of Sandy Hook is the 2004 recipient of the Big Y Scholarship. The scholarship is considered one of the most competitive in New England, with thousands of students applying each year. Since its founding in 1981, Big Y has awarded more than $1 million to 2,000 young scholars.

Patrick Thomas Dennen of Sandy Hook and Lindsay Ellen Carley recently graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.

The following students received honors for the third marking period at Immaculate High School in Danbury: Distinguished Honors, Gregory Dierks, High Honors, Azureen Erdman, Emerald Erdman, Kara Fitzgerald, Kelley Fitzgerald, Jessica Gaboriault, Mary Gover, Laura Hennessy, Meghan Kelley, Kathleen Sharnick, Nicole Sieber, Honors, Courtney Fuller, Kaitlin Fuller, Michael Leone. 

Kevin Pious of Sandy Hook recently received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
