Rabbi To Lead Workshop On Social Transformation

SOUTHBURY — Miriam’s Well will sponsor a workshop, “Social Transformation and Spiritual Growth in the Age of George Bush and Ariel Sharon,” led by Rabbi Michael Lerner on June 4–6.

Rabbi Lerner, the editor of Tikkun magazine and author of Healing Israel/Palestine, encourages each side to acknowledge the pain and affirm the decency of the other. An activist leader in the 1960s antiwar movement, he was a member of the Seattle Seven, a group of activists indicted by the federal government for using the telephone with the intent to incite to riot, that is, to protest against the Vietnam War.

His political opinions continue to be debated throughout the political and spiritual arenas.

This Self and the World Workshop will focus on organizing a “politics of spirituality” for the November elections to build a solid majority for social transformation; political activism as a spiritual experience; becoming effective leaders for social action and lasting change; exploration of social issues from Jewish renewal to healing the Israel/Palestine conflict; focus on a “New Bottom Line of Spiritual Awareness” in personal and professional lives and in law, medicine, politics, education, and the economy.

The workshop will be held at the Dolce Heritage Conference Center, 522 Heritage Road. The fee of $275 per person includes continental breakfast Saturday and Sunday, lunch on Saturday. To register, contact Miriam’s Well at 845-246-5805 or visit www.miriamswell.org.
