Colonial Day At Keeler Tavern Museum

RIDGEFIELD — Pay a visit to the 18th Century during Colonial Day at Keeler Tavern Museum, 132 Main Street, on Saturday, May 22, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The 18th Century Tavern Building, the Garden House and the acres surrounding will be alive with musicians, craftsmen and puppeteers. The 2nd Company Governor’s Horse Guard, attired in 18th Century costume, will perform maneuvers on their trained mounts.

The Germantown Ancients Fife & Drum Corp will play marches and songs of the era after a short march down Main Street. Also, 18th Century music and dance tunes will be provided by The Reel Thing.

Colonial craftsmen will demonstrate skills including rope making, kettle corn cookery, dried flower arranging, blacksmithing, rug hooking, open pit cooking, weaving quilting, doll making, cordwaining, pottery, and chair caning. An artist will cut silhouettes to order.

A puppeteer will put on a Colonial-era Punch & Judy show at 11 am and 1 pm. Local thespians will act in The Eve of the Battle of Ridgefield in the Tap Room of the Tavern Building several times during the day.

The first floor of the Tavern Building will be open for tours, and special exhibits are planned.

Youngsters can enjoy children’s Colonial games and special activities. Pony rides, courtesy of the 2nd Company Governor’s Horse Guard, will be available.

Free parking will be available at First Congregational Church and Jesse Lee memorial Church, both nearby on Main Street.
