Newtown Students Head To Leadership Conference

Jessica Biscoe, a rising senior at Newtown High School, was recently selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC), in which Jessica will be able to develop the skills and traits that define a leader.

During the conference, Jessica will attend special workshops and seminars studying the distinctions of leadership. Special guest speakers in previous years have included US Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona, US Secretary of Education Rod Paige, former US Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former Attorney General Janet Reno, President of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn and Supreme Court Justices Anthony Kennedy, Sandra Day O’Connor, and David Souter. Such high-profile speakers bring current national and international issues to life.

“Students develop a sense of independence and responsibility,” said Dr Paul M. Lisnek, the NSLC director of academics and former assistant dean of Loyola University Chicago School of Law. “They leave with a true feeling of accomplishment and confidence in their ability to handle the challenges that lie ahead.”

The NSLC offers leadership conferences on Mastering Leadership, Law & Advocacy, Medicine & Health Care, Entrepreneurship and Business, International Diplomacy, US Policy and Politics, Intelligence and National Security, and Inside the Arts.
