World Day Of Prayer

Returning March 4

Church Women United/Newtown-Bethel will join CWU groups around the world in offering a World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 4.

The service will be at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, beginning at 1 pm.

World Day of Prayer (WDP) is an international event that unites Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and other Catholic women and men in more than 170 countries in prayer. Christian women in Poland have written a service that will help WDP attendees become better informed about their country and its needs.

Through the WDP service “Let Our Light Shine,” the women share their rich heritage of faith. Its theme encourages women and men to respond to Jesus’ challenge in the Sermon on the Mount. The service will include prayer, readings, and hymns.

Admission to the service is free. An offering will be collected, portions of which are designated toward women’s projects around the world, as well as to support the ongoing work of the WDP International Committee.

In preparation for the World Day of Prayer program, an optional Bible study will be led by Linda Manganaro on Friday, February 25. Mrs Manganaro’s study will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, on Tory Lane at Mt Pleasant Road, will run from 10 am to 2 pm. Participants should bring their own bag lunches and Bibles.

The Bible study is not mandatory for the March 4 service, but is being offered to complement it.
