Wearin’ Of The Red:

 The Heart Truth

Newtown Visiting Nurse Association will take women’s health to heart by wearing red on Friday, February 3. Wearing red will be the associations’ way of showing support for women’s heart disease awareness.

Newtown VNA Board of Directors will gather in the center of Newtown at My Place Restaurant for breakfast on Friday, February 3 at 9 am. VNA members will be wearing red, and passing out red hearts throughout the Queen Street restaurant to patrons in support of the national movement to make people more aware of women’s problems with heart disease.

The Heart Truth is a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. The campaign and partner organizations launched the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in February 2003. National Wear Red Day promotes the Red Dress symbol and the message that it carries: “Heart Disease Doesn’t Care What You Wear – It’s the #1 Killer of Women.”

First Selectman Herb Rosenthal will present a citation to the VNA in behalf of National Red Day and has promised to wear a red tie. VNA Vice President Mae Schmidle, who is known for her fondness of the color, will festoon the restaurant with plenty of red decorations.
