The Hanover Springs Station was built in 1912 because of a request from William Upham, whose Hanover Road home was just north of the Shepaug Valley Railroad tracks. This allowed him an easy commute to his Hawleyville food processing plant and also to his office in New York. The station was located in the northwestern corner of the state boat launch, north of the upper Paugussett State Forest.
