No Partisan Issues, Just Newtown Issues
No Partisan Issues, Just Newtown Issues
To the Editor:
In reading the account of the Republican caucus, it appears to us that Mr Sheluckâs victory embodies the essence of the July 18 Editorial Ink Drops â âDemocracy: Do It Yourself.â Mr. Sheluck was not the âanointedâ party candidate and didnât âwait for the other guyâ to change the status quo. He worked within the democratic process and convinced the caucus that he was the best choice for the November ballot.
We agree that there is no place for âpartisan politicsâ in Newtown. No place is this more apparent than with the issues â Fairfield Hills, budget levels, and future development/land use. These are not Democratic or Republican issues; these are Newtown issues. Though we are Democrats, we strongly feel that Bill Sheluck is the best person to effectively lead Newtown into the future. His management skills, financial experience and perseverance make him our choice for first selectman.
In closing, we would like to thank all those who participated in the party caucuses and congratulate those who will be on the ballot in November.
