Cleanup Saturday At Orchard Hill
Cleanup Saturday At Orchard Hill
The Newtown Lions Club is organizing a cleanup project on Saturday, September 27, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Orchard Hill Nature Center and calling on residents and organizations to help.
The Lions plan to do more marking of paths, lining paths with wood chips, removing dead trees, and general cleanup. Anyone who can help is asked to show up that day. For more information call Gordon Williams at 426-6443.
Last year the Lions took their first steps to make Orchard Hill a true nature area. The Lions, joined by Boy Scouts, Parks and Recreation board members, and Newtown Bridle Lands members, and other volunteers widened and chipped trails. Trails were remarked, signs were made for 13 specimen trees identified by state forester Larry Rousseau, and the entire 25 acres were cleared of litter.
A large sign was placed near the foundation and ruins of an old mill that graced the property in the 19th Century, and a pamphlet describing the entire property was produced to be available at the kiosk at the entry to the park.
