Keeping The Spirit In Christmas

As the holidays quickly approach, many people feel overwhelmed by the excitement that this season brings. The Family Counseling Center, Inc. will sponsor an evening workshop entitled “Maintaining Your Spirituality Throughout the Holidays Despite ‘The Mall’” on Tuesday, December 7, from 7 to 9 pm in the community room at the C.H. Booth Library on Main Street.

Area clergy will lead a panel discussion on how to maintain your spirituality with all the expectations that the busy holiday brings. The Rev Kathleen Adams-Shepherd of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rev Robert Weiss of St Rose Church, and the Rev Jack Tanner, minister of Newtown Christian Church, will discuss what spirituality is and how spirituality can be used to help cope with added stresses and expectations of the holiday season.

The holiday season is known to affect people’s lives in different ways. Anxiety levels increase, depression deepens, and stress levels escalate. Family, friends, and co-workers often add more expectations during this time of year.

The evening is free of charge and is open to the public, ages 14 and above. The panel discussion will be followed by an open question and answer period. Light refreshments will be served.

Located on Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown, the Family Counseling Center is a nonprofit community agency that helps meet the mental health needs of children and adults in the Greater Danbury and Southbury area. The center is a United Way-funded, state-licensed, and nationally accredited agency.
