NIANTIC â First Sergeant Frank Tyszka and Sergeant Doreen Jurgens, members of the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard, completed the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Training Course at Camp Rowland in Niantic.
The Connecticut Army National Guard recently held graduation exercises at Camp Rowland for those members who completed the five-week Advanced and Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Courses. The Second General Studies Battalion, 169th Leadership Regiment, of the CT Army National Guard, provided the training for both courses.
First Sergeant Tyszka and Sergeant Jurgens are both of Trumbull.
The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard is one of the oldest horse cavalry units in continuous service in the United States, having proudly served the citizenry of Connecticut since 1808. The training each received will aid both the Troop and each Sergeant in their leadership roles within the Troop.
Training included courses on Motivational Development, Ethical Leadership behavior, Combat Stress, Squad Tactical and Technical Operations as well as Physical Fitness Training. The Non-Commissioned Officers learned the attributes, skills and action needed to lead a platoon sized unit.
A formal graduation ceremony and reception was held at the Point Pavilion at Camp Rowland where both First Sergeant Tyszka and SGT Jurgens received their certificates from Major General William A. Cugno, the Adjutant General. The General made the presentation accompanied by Major Janis E. Arena, Commandant of the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard.
