Is It A Dream Come True?
Is It A Dream Come True?
Although the recessed lighting was set low in the banquet hall, guests enjoying a silent auction slipped through pools of daylight flooding through floor-to-ceiling windows facing Lake Zoar Saturday evening.
Dressed in gowns, tailored suits, and jewels, many couples sipped champagne as they placed a bid on items including artwork, athletic equipment, stained glass works, and more to benefit Dream Come True â an organization devoted to enhancing the lives of children who are seriously, chronically, or terminally ill.
Newtown residents Howard and Jeanette Hubley Lasher knew many faces in the crowd during the 17th annual event at the Waterview, just over the town line in Monroe. Nodding to guests or shaking hands with others, Mr Lasher paused to mention that âa lot of Newtown residents are hereâ and among what he referred to as the âWall Street Community,â many have been âextremely generous to making dreams come true,â he said.
With the Lashers were Jennifer and Cody Foss of The Fitness Loft in Newtown, who sampled hors dâoeuvres and laughed with friends. Dream Come True President James Lang noted that the eveningâs gala was the biggest of the year for the organization. With a glance at the coming months, he said, âWeâre hoping to grant at least 25 wishes this coming year.â Will they make their goal?
âIt depends on the benefactors,â Mr Lang said, indicating Mr Lasher, for one. âHe has contributed to this organizationâs success.â Visit www.dreamcometrue.org. The website explains the organizationâs vision: âWe offer children with life-threatening illnesses the chance to hope, dream and live their fantasies.â
