Adopt From The Animal Center

The following three cats are available through the Animal Center:

PATCHES may have it tough — diagnosed with a serious illness and needing to find a new home for the second time — but anyone who’s ever met him will tell you that Patches has a wonderful, happy disposition no matter what troubles come his way, according to Animal Center personnel. He’s hoping that his winning personality will help him find a loving family to give him the home he needs.

About six years ago, Patches was brought to a vet hospital for euthanasia by his owners. He was a healthy, happy kitty but his family just didn’t want the responsibility of caring for a cat anymore. As luck would have it, his wonderful personality quickly won over the hearts of the vet staff. With owner permission to dispose of Patches as they saw fit, the vet staff determined this kitty belonged in a new home. They networked with friends, and the opportunity to find a new home for him came when a Weston family learned of his story. For more than six years, Patches lived happily with his human family and two feline brothers, TK and Toby. But then several events happened this fall that would change Patches’ life and put him in the current situation of needing to find a new home. His owners needed to spend more time abroad for family reasons and his feline brother TK died of kidney disease. Just two months later, Toby passed away from cancer. Patches suddenly found himself without his two best friends by his side. His pet-sitter noticed that he was starting to lose weight and took him to the family vet. After a thorough exam and blood work, Patches was diagnosed with diabetes. Fortunately, diabetes is a manageable condition in cats, just as it is for people. And Patches is an excellent patient. Given the circumstances including the fact he requires daily medical care and supervision, his family has asked for the Animal Center’s help finding him a new home. Animal Center personnel say it’s not going to be easy to find someone who would take on a diabetic cat, but that Patches is a special cat who would be a great addition to a loving home. Patches will require insulin shots twice a day (which he takes like a champ, according to Animal Center personnel) and vet care to regulate his diabetes. He is approximately 11 years old, neutered and current on vaccines. To adopt, contact The Animal Center at 270-0228 or online at www.theanimalcenter.org

GIGI, an approximately one-year-old cat, is up for adoption through The Animal Center. Purrs, laptime and snuggles are what Gigi likes best. On March 9, shortly after joining The Animal Center’s program, Gigi gave birth to four beautiful kittens. Gigi will be ready for adoption in early May when she’s done nursing her babies.

The Animal Center is looking to line up a suitable home for her in the meantime so that when Gigi is spayed and done nursing, there is someone special waiting to welcome her into their life. Gigi is healthy and current on vaccines.

BELLA, a beautiful Siamese/ Tabby mix, is approximately 1-1/2 years old. Bella loves to play and is very much a kitten at heart. She is a very smart cat, extremely lovable and enjoys as much attention as you can give her. Bella exhibits some jealousy around other cats and dogs. Bella is spayed, current on vaccinations and is healthy.

The Animal Center is a Newtown-based, non-profit animal welfare charity that rescues, rehabilitates and places the community’s abandoned, neglected and injured kittens into loving homes. The Animal Center not only partners with the community, but also with other rescue groups and veterinary offices to save cats that might otherwise be euthanized. The Animal Center is a 501 (c)3 publicly-supported charity, will help more than 200 cats this year and relies heavily on the support of the public and generous volunteers. To adopt, contact The Animal Center at 270-0228 or at info@theanimalcenter.org.
