Police Continue Expanded Traffic Enforcement
In a continuing project to enforce motorist traffic violations involving speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving, police officers were dispatched on two days to stop and charge violators.
On Saturday, March 15, the enforcement project ran from 8 am to 4 pm. Police enforced the traffic laws on five local streets â Main Street, Queen Street, Boggs Hill Road, Flat Swamp Road, and Swamp Road.
During that period, police issued eight infractions for illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving.
They also issued 24 violations involving vehicular speed. Those included 22 infractions for traveling too fast, one infraction for speeding, and one misdemeanor summons for speeding.
Police issued the summons to a motorist who was driving 67 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on Swamp Road. That motorist is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charge.
Also, on Thursday, March 13, police conducted a traffic enforcement project from 6 to 10 am on Berkshire Road, Riverside Road, Main Street, and Hawleyville Road. From 2 to 6 pm that day, police held an enforcement project on Riverside Road, Queen Street, and Toddy Hill Road.
The enforcement that day involved school zones, including those areas where police have received complaints about motorists illegally passing school buses. Police said they did not observe any such bus violations that day.
During the morning enforcement period on March 13, police issued eight speed-related violations and handed out eight cellphone violations.
During the afternoon, the enforcement included eight speed-related violations, four cellphone violations, eight automotive equipment violations, and two seatbelt violations.
