Sedan Vs Pole

Motorist Nicholas Aponte, 18, of 54 Marlin Road was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Platts Hill Road about 2:19 pm November 15, when while adjusting some radio controls, he lost control of the auto and collided with a utility pole along the right road shoulder, police report.

Volunteer ambulance corps members went to the scene to check Aponte for a facial injury, police said.

Police said they issued Aponte an infraction ticket, listing charges of making a restricted turn and driving without a license.

Keys/Flashlight

About 1:30 pm November 17, police learned that a set of keys and a Husky-brand flashlight had been found in Sandy Hook near the intersection of High Rock Road and Gray’s Plain Road.

Police are holding the items for safekeeping. The owner may contact police at 203-426-5841 to claim the keys and flashlight.

Crosswalk Sign

Police report an incident in which a portable plastic crosswalk street sign was heavily damaged, making it unusable.

The sign had been positioned on the Main Street crosswalk lying immediately north of the Main Street flagpole. Such signs state to motorists that pedestrians standing in crosswalks have the right-of-way over drivers.

A witness to the incident told police that at about noon on November 11, a tractor-trailer truck that had turned right from Church Hill Road onto Main Street, ran over the crosswalk sign, causing the sign to become entangled in the trucks’ wheels.

The truck dragged the entangled sign about one mile, leaving the mangled device on Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

The trucker who collided with the sign could not be found. Anyone with information on the identity of the trucker who hit the sign and kept driving is asked to contact Officer Dana Schubert at 203-426-5841.

Signs Stolen

Sometime between 8:30 pm on November 12, and 6:30 am on November 13, someone stole a stop sign and a street name sign for Short Hills Road from the intersection of Short Hills Road and Winton Farm Road, according to police.

The signs are public property. The crime is sixth-degree larceny. Anyone with knowledge of who stole the items are asked to contact police Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.

Marlin Road

Police are investigating a case of curbside mailbox vandalism in which someone intentionally damaged a mailbox at a Marlin Road home sometime between 8:30 pm on November 14 and 12:53 pm on November 15. It is a case of third-degree criminal mischief.

Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact Officer Charles Guernsey at 203-426-5841.

Four MV Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Theodore Kemp, 26, of 26 Botsford Hill Road for traveling too fast near 16 Swamp Road at about 6:20 am November 19.

Following an investigation, police charged Kemp with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, driving without automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police said they released Kemp on $100 bail for a December 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Wasserman Way, near the state’s commuter parking lot, about 5:36 pm November 19.

The accident involved motorist Anna Radcliff, 40, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Saturn SW-2 station wagon, and motorist Kathleen Whitaker, 16, of 15 Alder Lane, who was driving a 2004 Infiniti G-35 sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Radcliff an infraction for making an improper turn.

Two Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Shannon McElwee, 24, of Shelton near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road about 10:30 am on November 19 for not having a clearly displayed front marker plate on the vehicle she was driving.

After investigating, police charged McElwee with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released McElwee on a written promise to appear December 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

House Burglary

Someone illegally entered a house on Lake Road, near its southern intersection with Hanover Road, possibly sometime between 2 and 6 pm on November 14, police said.

The person got into the building through a basement window and stole a golf bag containing golf clubs, police said. The crimes committed are third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 2 am on November 21, they spotted motorist Michael A. Briganti, 42, of Stratford traveling southward on Route 25 and crossing the street’s center line, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they arrested Briganti on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Following processing, police released Briganti on $100 bail for a December 8 court appearance.

Sandy Hook DUI

Motorist Thomas Shevlin, 19, of Monroe was seen driving erratically on High Bridge Road in Sandy Hook about 3:17 am on November 22, police report.

Police said they stopped Shevlin, investigated, and then charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following arrest processing, police released Shevlin on $100 bail for a December 3 court appearance.

Acura Vs Deer

Motorist Ajay Rana, 22, of 23 Toddy Hill Road was driving a 2004 Acura TL sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Susan Lane, about 1:24 am November 22, when a deer entered the road and collided with the auto, police said. Rana was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Wasserman Way

About 5:30 pm on November 19, motorist Nancy Bosley, 62, of Old Castle Road was driving a 2004 Volvo sedan westward on Wasserman Way, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the auto, police report. The deer then ran off. Bosley was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Rear-Ender

About 9 am on November 16, motorist Brett Burroughs, 19, of 11 Blue Spruce Drive, who was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am sedan southward on South Main Street, struck the rear end of a southbound 2008 Volkswagen Jetta sedan driven by John P. Agostisi, 58, of Trumbull, police said.

The collision occurred at South Main Street’s intersection with Button Shop Road. There were no injuries. Police issued Burroughs a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Honda Vs Honda

Police report a two-car accident about 8:09 pm November 19 near 130 Mt Pleasant Road.

In that collision, motorist Justin Martel, 20, of New Milford, who was driving a 1995 Honda sedan, drove into the rear end of a 2004 Honda sedan driven by Michael Krupnikoff, 30, of Bethel, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Martel a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Three Vehicles

State police report a three-vehicle accident on a tri-lane section of westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 6:38 am November 20.

Trucker Robert Potvin, 55, of Chicopee, Mass., was driving a 2009 International truck in the left lane; motorist Crystal Anne Davis, 21, of Dillon, S.C., was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima in the right lane; motorist Thomas Sweeney, 46, of 14 Patricia Lane was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring in the center lane, state police said.

The International attempted to change lanes and hit the Chrysler, causing the Chrysler to spin and collide with the Nissan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Moving Violations

Police said motorist Michael Servidio, 31, of Bethel was seen driving through a stop sign posted at the intersection of Hattertown Road and Route 302 at about 11:45 am on November 22, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Servidio with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Servidio on a written promise to appear in court on December 8.

Arrest Warrant

Newtown police said that Watertown police arrested Kristin Pfeiffer, 41, of Fairfield in Watertown on the night of November 23, after learning that Pfeiffer was wanted on an arrest warrant that was issued to Newtown police.

Pfeiffer was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court stemming from original charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny, Newtown police said.

The burglary/larceny charges stem from a May incident in which Pfeiffer allegedly illegally entered a vacant residence in Sandy Hook Center and stole some household items, according to police.

On November 23, police released Pfeiffer on $2,500 bail for a December 8 court appearance.

Impact

Police report a two-vehicle collision in the parking lot at the US Post Office at 5 Commerce Road on November 17.

Motorist Robert Stampp, 66, of Mandeville, La., who was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy station wagon, drove forward into the rear bumper of a 2008 Lincoln Navigator SUV driven by Melissa Beylouni, 40, of 7 Stonewall Ridge Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Berkshire Road

About 2:26 pm November 24, motorist Erica Raymond, 17, of 15 Shut Road was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan eastward near 7 Berkshire Road, when a deer entered the street, resulting in a collision, police report. Raymond was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Truck Vs Minivan

Police report that at about 12:04 pm on November 24, Pablo Barela, 39, of Bridgeport, who was driving a commercial 1997 Ford F-350 pickup truck, was in the driveway at 91 South Main Street and was waiting to enter the road, as Wayne Smith, 63, of 7 Saddle Ridge Road was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan northward on South Main Street.

As the truck attempted to enter the street, it collided with the minivan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Barela an infraction on charges of failure to grant the right of way and driving without a license.
