Occupation: I worked full time until August as vice president for 13 years of property development and management for the BRT General Corp. I am also a real estate broker. I made the huge decision to leave after my last child was born. I am starting a business, Internet based, to market my hand-made beaded and semi-precious jewelry. I hope to have an Internet site by next month. I earned a bachelor of arts [degree] in history from Tufts and a masterâs in business administration in finance from UConn.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for six years. Previously I lived in Danbury. I grew up in Ridgefield. My husband grew up in Newtown so he was delighted to come home.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: The growth. The town is growing and experiencing growing pains that are apparent now. Itâs becoming more suburban. Itâs important to hang on to its appealing characteristics.
Family:Â My husband, Joe, and I have been married for 13 years. We have three children, Marilyn, 6, who attends Hawley School; Alex, 4, who is in preschool at Trinity Day; and Tyler, nine months.
Pets: We have a dwarf rabbit, Roo, and a beagle, Molly.
Hobbies: In the summer I enjoy gardening. I also enjoy sewing, needlecrafts and the computer. I took a course in Web design at Newtown Continuing Ed.
Favorite Books and Authors: I love to read all the time. My favorite book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I liked the book a lot.Â
Favorite TV Show: Anything on the Home and Garden channel. I always worked so I need all the help I can get.
Organizations: I was involved in several organizations when I worked. I am a member of St Rose parish and volunteer at Hawley School. Iâm still getting things lined up. Iâm also trying to get a business started.
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: Our favorite time is when we are out walking in the summer. Itâs so quiet and beautiful. The kids live for the Labor Day parade.
Favorite Vacation Spot: My favorite place is almost anywhere in Florida. We like to go where itâs warm in the winter. We love Connecticut and during three seasons we stay put. Thereâs so much to do here. This is home for me.
Personal Philosophy: I want to keep learning and growing and try to deal with everyone I meet fairly and honestly. I want to instill strong moral values in my kids.
