Lions Club Initiates Four New Members
Four new members of the Newtown Lions Cub were initiated into membership at a recent Wednesday night dinner meeting at the Olde Newtown Tavern.
The four new Lions are Paul Arneth, Richard Coburn, Gordon Mounts, and Anthony Ratzing. Three of the new members immediately volunteered to work on the pancake breakfast scheduled for Saturday, February 12 at the Sandy Hook firehouse to benefit the fire company and the Cyrenius H. Booth Library. Paul Arneth will be the chairman of the breakfast fundraiser.
The pancake breakfast is one of many winter-spring events planned by the Lions Club. In April the Lions will spearhead Lose the Litter Day in Newtown. Lions Club member Jerome Meyer will chair this event. On the first Saturday in May, the Lions Club and the Rotary will work on an AmeriCares project to help a local resident whose home needs repair.
In addition to civic projects scheduled year-around, the Lions Club also holds social activities. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the club should call Edward Miklaszewski, membership chairman, at 426-2759.
