Monday, May 31 – The Bedford Riding Lanes will hold its Memorial Day Country Pace and Luncheon on Monday, May 31, at the John Jay Homestead Historic Site on Route 22 in Katonah, New York. Entries close on May 15. Limit is 130 teams. Fee is $80 per adult rider ($70 for BRLA members) and $60 per junior rider ($50 for BRLA members). For luncheon only, adults will be $30 and juniors $20. Pace will run from 8 am to 12 noon, with luncheon from 12 noon to 2 pm, a raffle drawing at 1:45 pm, and announcement of results and presentation of ribbons at 2 pm. Sunday, May 16 – The 2004 4-H Spring Benefit Horse Show will be held Sunday, May 16, at the Cooperative Extension System grounds on Stony Hill Road in Bethel. The open schooling show will feature classes in English Equitation, Hunt Seat, Western and Trail. Most classes will be pinned through sixth place, with the first-place winner also receiving a trophy. Divisions will be awarded champion and reserve champion ribbons. Several year-end awards will be offered to the high point horse and rider combinations from both the Spring Benefit and Fall Nutmeg Shows. Call 1-203-207-3264 for further information.

Sunday, May 16 – The 23rd annual Pegasus Horse Show will be held Sunday, May 16, from 10 am to 3 pm, at Coker Farm on Stone Hill Road, Route 137, in Bedford, New York. Pegasus is seeking people willing to sponsor a ribbon for the show – the Grand Champion ($5,000), Champion ($1,000), Reserve Champion ($500), Blue ($250), Red ($150), Yellow ($100) or White ($50) ribbons. Dogs

 

Saturday, April 17 – Greyhound Rescue and Rehabilitation will hold a Meet And Greet on Saturday, April 17, at the Pet Pantry Warehouse at 290 Railroad Avenue in Greenwich. Potential adopters can get acquainted with rescued racers and learn more about adopting a greyhound. Call 1-914-763-2221 for further information.

Saturday, April 24 – The second annual Run For Rescue – the Go! Dog Go! road race – will be held Saturday, April 24, at 10 am, at Ballantine Park in Southbury. A three-mile race will begin at 10 am, with a two-mile race to follow at 10:30 am and a one-mile kid’s fun run to follow at 11 am. Canine companions are invited to participate in the two-mile race with their owners. All participants in the Run For Rescue – celebrating the eighth birthday of Animals For Life, Inc. – will receive a race package filled with fun gifts and treats. Pre-registered runners will also receive a custom logo t-shirt and all canine participants will receive custom logo bandanas and special doggie gifts. Refreshments will be provided to all runners at the conclusion of their races and canine runners will be invited to chow down on a freshly-baked all-natural birthday cake provided by The Natural Pet. An awards ceremony will take place at 12 noon. Prizes will be presented to the top three finishers in each age category of the three-mile race, as well as to the first overall male and female finishers in that race. The top three human-canine teams in the two-mile race will receive prizes, as well, as will the top three finishers in the Kid’s Fun Run. The celebration will also include a craft show from 10 am to 4 pm as well as music from Norm Geib and his band. A pet photographer will also be on hand. A canine adoption, scavenger hunt and live dog training demonstration will fill the rest of the afternoon. Call 267-6777 for further information.

Friday, April 30 – The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will host its annual Spring Sale on Friday, April 30, from 10 am to 3 pm, at Hatters Park in Danbury. A special preview sale will start at 9:30 am for a $5 donation. The sale will continue on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be estate sale items, baked goods, and a special “treasures table.” All proceeds will benefit DAWS and their animals.
