Police to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint This Weekend
During the nighttime hours of Saturday, November 25, and early morning hours of Sunday, November 26, town police plan to hold a sobriety checkpoint on an unspecified local road.
Every motorist traveling through the bi-directional checkpoint will be briefly stopped. Drivers will be interviewed to determine if they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. While stopped, drivers also are checked for various other violations.
Ten police officers and a supervisor will be checking motorists.
As part of the holiday seasonâs increased enforcement of drunken driving laws, town police also plan to have additional roving DUI patrols on local roads through the end of the year.
The drunken driving enforcement program is made possible through a state/federal grant, which covers 75 percent of the $20,000 in overtime expenses stemming from the enforcement project, according to police.
