RENAISSANCE ALTARPIECE AT SMITH COLLEGE

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. — “The Coronation of the Virgin: A Major Acquisition of a Northern Renaissance Altarpiece” is on view at the Smith College Museum of Art in a special installation through October, after which it will be incorporated into the permanent collection galleries.

Dated 1515, this is the earliest known altarpiece by the artist, a contemporary of Hans Holbein and the foremost painter in Cologne in the first half of the Sixteenth Century.
