Healing Hearts Hosting Camp For Grieving Kids
Healing Hearts Hosting Camp
For Grieving Kids
DANBURY â Grieving is hard work. It is especially difficult for children, who grieve differently than adults. Depending on their developmental stage, a grieving child may feel sad, scared, angry, confused, or responsible for the death of a loved one.
To help children learn healthy ways to cope with the loss of their loved one while developing the skills necessary to rebuild their lives and go forward, The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families is offering a weeklong camp for bereaved children ages 4â12.
The camp will be held Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, from 9 am to noon, at The Healing Hearts Center, 73 Stadley Rough Road. The camp is available to children who have lost a loved one such as a grandparent, parent, sibling, friend, or other person close to them.
Remembrance and sharing activities appropriate for healing will be woven into an enjoyable week of camp. Age-appropriate activities will also include arts and crafts, sports, making camp T-shirts, and entertainment, to help the children understand they can still enjoy fun and camaraderie even while grieving a recent loss.
âCamp was good because it makes me feel better to talk about it,â said one camper. âI knew I wasnât the only one who lost someone they loved,â said another.
The camp will be run by masterâs-level grief support facilitators and volunteers from Healing Hearts. Thanks to the generous support of the community there will only be a $25 craft material fee for each camper. (The fee may be waived due to financial hardship.)
