Stable Management At Post U

Waterbury — Stable Management II, the next in the current series of evening courses through Post University’s Equine Department, will begin Monday, June 7, at 6:30. The companion course to the popular Stable Management I, it covers topics ranging from barn organization and pasture care to bedding and manure management. The course will also cover advice on recordkeeping and insurance requirements, and there will be discussion on legal considerations and environmental impacts of horsekeeping as well.

The program is designed for horse owners and enthusiasts who wish to learn more valuable information about efficient and responsible stable management. The Equine Husbandry series can be taken in any order and is open to anyone interested — no prerequisites are required. Each course runs for eight weeks, one evening per week for three hours. Participants can earn CEU credits or take the courses for personal enrichment. Stable Management II will run Mondays, June 7 to August 2, from 6:30 to 9:20 on the Waterbury Campus of Post University (near Exit 17 off I-84). Classes meet in Room 103, MacDermid Hall with parking in the North Lot.

The staff of Post University’s Equine Department understands that while it is easy to find a place to ride, it is much harder to learn how to look after horses well. The husbandry series addresses this problem, as it is planned to cover the information horse owners require. Other courses in the series include Basic Horse Ownership and Care, Stable Management I, Equine Health, Equine Anatomy and The Horse. The series runs in a cycle throughout the year, except for the summer months, and continues in late August with Equine Anatomy.
