Pub 25 Outlasts Sunoco In Softball Finale

Newtown’s Pub 25 sponsored Men’s Softball League team defeated Sunoco to win the championship at Treadwell Park on September 20.

Pub 25 topped Big Budda 23-9 in the loser’s bracket game to advance to face Sunoco, and had to win twice to claim the championship. Pub 25 won 17-5 in the first game to force a winner take all contest, and prevailed 19-7.

Pub 25 was led by Joey Devellis, who was 7-for-8, Steve Vichiola, who was 9-for-13, PJ Cochrane, who went 8-for-10 with a homerun, and Tim LaPack who was 6-for-8 with a pair of homers. Pat Smith pitched well for the winners in the season-ending games.

Sunoco’s Gene Chappell and Matern had solid performances in their final game for Sunoco.
