With apologies to Yogi Berra, it was deja-vu . . . all over again.
In a week in which the Nighthawks earned three more victories to raise their impressive record to 11-3-1, the one victory they no doubt wanted more than any other this season was the one over Guilford on Monday.
Last year, the âHawks saw a 7-4 lead over Guilford disintegrate into a 9-8 loss and on Monday, down in Guilford, they had a chance to repay the favor by pinning â and here is the deja-vu part â a 9-8 loss on the Indians.
Six different players scored goals for the Nighthawks, with Kate Ryan, Sarah OâSullivan, and Katherine Moberg netting two apiece and Erin McDonald, Jen Logan and Caitlin Collier chipping in with one apiece.
The win came just two days after the âHawks narrowly defeated Ridgefield, 12-10, a team the âHawks had handled quite easily (16-5) just a couple weeks ago. Collier â who, just a week ago, scored her 100th career goal â scored six goals in the win and broke Charlie Heinzerâs all-time lacrosse scoring record of 121.
Ryan scored three goals and assisted on four others in a phenomenal effort and OâSullivan added three goals and two assists. Moberg chipped in with an assist.
A day later, the âHawks extended their winning streak to three games with an 18-5 shellacking of Danbury. Eight different players scored goals in this one, with McDonald (5), Collier (3), OâSullivan (3), Ryan (2), Tate Hoeffel (2), Logan (1), Moberg (1), and Sage Huskins (1) all finding the net. Ryan and OâSullivan had two assists each while McDonald, Collier, Moberg, Hoeffel and Sheehan each had one assist.
It finished off a great week for the âHawks, but the week did start off on a bit of a sour note last Thursday with a 14-6 loss to powerhouse Darien. In that game, Collier scored three times, Emily Sheehan scored twice, and OâSullivan scored once. Hoeffel and Ryan added assists.
Now at 11-3-1, the âHawks have just one final regular season game on the schedule â next Tuesday against newcomer New Milford. Then itâs on to the state tournament for the third year in a row. And with at least two games left â and possibly more â OâSullivan still has a shot (11 goals to go) of becoming the third player this season (see story on Sean Raby) to score his or her 100th career goal.
