Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser

Raising awareness and money for breast cancer research and education are the goals of the Longaberger® Horizon of Hope campaign. To reach this goal, Longaberger sales consultants Shelley Kappauf of Newtown and Joanne Martin of Danbury have organized a Horizon of Hope brunch at the Inn at Ethan Allen from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm on August 26.

“Early detection can ensure life after cancer, and we are excited to have the perfect vehicle to support and share this message,” said Ms Kappauf, who has been an independent sales consultant representing Longaberger for seven years.

Over the past seven years, through the joint efforts of the Longaberger® Company and the American Cancer Society, a basket called the Horizon of Hope Basket is sold in July and August. The Longaberger Company donates money for every basket sold, as do consultants on a voluntary basis. The Horizon of Hope Campaign has generated over $5 million and has supported several research and education projects related to breast cancer. These projects include mammography screening, lymphedema, and breast cancer prevention.

Equally important in the Horizon of Hope Campaign is sharing the message of annual checkups, early detection, and healthy lifestyles to our attendees. This campaign has helped to spread this message to over 11 million people over the past six years, and will touch even more lives with events like this one through the efforts of more than 70,000 Longaberger® consultants nationwide.

This Horizon of Hope brunch on Sunday is a local and individual effort of Ms Kappauf and Ms Martin. Support from friends and local businesses such as Avancé Esthéthiques and Fashion Exchange in Newtown in this fundraising effort will ensure a successful day. Speakers will include Marty LaMarche, a breast cancer survivor from Newtown, as well as Heather Pelak and Maureen Gianni-Deep from the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
