Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multi-Purpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of The Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

You may drop in at the Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Wal-Mart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

*Head for YANKEE CANDLE in Massachusetts on Tuesday, August 28. Lunch at Delaney House and then enjoy a river cruise on the Lady Bea along the Connecticut River. Depart at 8 am; cost is $75.

*A DAY AT THE RACES at Monticello, N.Y., with live harness racing on Tuesday, September 11. Depart at 9 am; cost is $38.

*Enjoy lunch buffet at the NEWPORT PLAYHOUSE and Cabaret Restaurant and see the comedic show The Miss Firecracker Contest on Thursday, September 27. After the show, enjoy some free time in Newport. Depart at 7:30 am; cost is $90.

*On Thursday, October 4, have lunch and see PHANTOM at Westchester Broadway Theatre. Depart at 9:30 am; tickets are $71.

*THE ROCKETTES at Radio City Music Hall on Friday, November 9, with lunch at Rudy’s. Early booking special, $105 per person.

*Visit Broadway and see JERSEY BOYS and have lunch at Oscar’s at the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Wednesday, December 5. Depart the Senior Center at 9:15 am; cost is $193 per person.

*COMPUTER LESSONS are given every Monday and Tuesday at 3 pm.

*BEGINNERS BRIDGE LESSONS on Wednesday, 9:30 am, with Mary Matern.

*BOARD GAME DAY is every Thursday at 1 pm. Coffee or tea and snack will be supplied.

*MOVIE TIME on Fridays at 1 pm. Enjoy a good “favorite” movie with a friend. We supply the video and popcorn.

Tuesday: August 21: Beef stroganoff served over egg noodles, broccoli florets, wheat dinner roll, pineapple juice, watermelon.

Wednesday: Hot open turkey sandwich on white with gravy, French green beans, herb stuffing, apple cake.

Thursday: Pot roast with gravy, mashed potatoes, bean and carrot medley, wheat bread, birthday cake.

Monday: August 27: Meatballs and spaghetti with marinara sauce, parmesan cheese, Caesar salad with croutons and Caesar dressing, Italian bread, cling peaches.

Tuesday: August 28: Chicken with garlic sauce, penne pasta, Italian blend vegetables, potato bread, fudge brownie, lemonade.
