Stanley McKenney
Stanley Joseph McKenney of Newtown died peacefully May 13, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of E. Patricia (Oldfield) McKenney.
Mr McKenney was born in Danbury on February 19, 1935, to Elizabeth (Shanley) and Stanislaus McKenney. He graduated from Danbury High School (Class of 1952), and at the age of 17 joined the US Navy and served during the Korean War for four years.
He met the love of his life, Patty (Eileen Oldfield) in 1961 and not long after she finally agreed to a date, they were married at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.
Mr McKenney was a steamfitter, and member of Connecticut and National Pipe Trade Unions for 60 years, where he held several offices and taught apprenticeship classes at Henry Abbott Technical School.
He was a member of Catholic War Veterans, American Legion and VFW, and a founding member of the Danbury Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Stan started McKenney Mechanical Contractors, Inc. with his sons Stan and Jack in 1987.
Following retirement in 1996, Mr McKenney and his wife enjoyed 18 happy years together living in Murrells Inlet, S.C., with many special neighbors and friends in their community. He enjoyed woodworking, metalworking, and volunteering at Brookgreen Gardens, Habitat for Humanity, and Meals On Wheels, and hosting a constant flow of family visitors. Before returning in recent years to Newtown, the McKenneys enjoyed boating and the beach, visits to Ireland, and sailing the Inland Waterway and the Caribbean; especially around their favorite island of Tortola.
Besides his loving wife of 54 years, Mr McKenneyÃÂ is survived by his six children and their spouses: Stan and NancyÃÂ McKenney of Danbury, Mary and Kevin Malone, Eileen McKenney, Alice and George Baluzy, Jack and Bridget McKenney, all of Brookfield, and Julie andÃÂ Paul Zegray of Bethel. He also leaves beloved grandchildren Kevin and Annie McKenney, Sam and Sophie Baluzy, Brendan, Henry, and Shea McKenney, and Tyler Zegray.
Mr McKenney is also survived by his sister Mary McKenney of Bethel; and his sisters- and brothers-in-law Geraldine Oldfield and Sheila and Jim Zustin of Danbury and John and Marilyn Oldfield of Homestead, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Stan will also be missed by his faithful little dog Tessa, who could usually be found by his side.
The family would like to extend their thanks to friends and staff at Maplewood of Newtown for their care, friendship, and support. They would also like to express their gratitude to Regional Hospice for its tremendous support and assistance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 18, at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 17, at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street in Danbury.
