SUV Vs SUV

Police report an accident involving two sport-utility vehicles on Church Hill Road about 5:30 pm August 12.

Motorist Athena Karviris, 39, of Redding, who was driving a 2007 Lexus GX-470 SUV eastward near 52 Church Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Lexus was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Norbert Simon, 81, of 59 Cricket Trail, who was driving a 1996 Isuzu Trooper SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Simon a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Burglary/Larceny

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Michael Janssen, 20, of Brookfield went to the police station on the morning of August 17 and was charged with third-degree burglary and with fourth-degree larceny, police report.

Police said Danbury Superior Court issued the warrant on August 8 as a result of their investigation into an incident in which Janssen allegedly entered the Newtown home of his employer last May 15 and stole several items.

The burglary charge is a felony. The larceny charge reflects the loss of items valued at between $500 and $1,000.

Following arrest processing, police released Janssen on a written promise to appear for court arraignment on September 4.

Wet Surface

While traveling eastward on a wet Castle Hill Road, near its intersection with King Street, about 9:11 pm on August 15, motorist Peter Gangi, 18, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy sedan, approached a curve in the road and began sliding, police said.

The sedan entered the opposite lane and struck some curbing, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Gangi a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Volkswagen

Motorist Jesse Gerardi, 20, of 7 Fox Run Lane South, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 26 Botsford Hill Road about 9:45 pm August 15, was negotiating a curve in the road and then lost control of the auto, striking some curbing and causing the vehicle to come to rest blocking the northbound lane, police said.

The accident scene is near the Housatonic Railroad’s rail bridge that crosses above Botsford Hill Road.

Gerardi was not injured in the mishap, police said. Gerardi received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

 Jeep Vs Honda

At about 8 pm August 15, motorist Thomas Mastrocinque, 17, of 26 Wills Road was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee SUV eastward and downhill on a wet Castle Hill Road and entering a curve to the right near Castle Hill Road’s intersection with King Street, as motorist Russell Volkers, 59, of 4 Fox Run Lane South was driving a 2003 Honda Element SUV westward on Castle Hill Road and entering a curve to the left, police report.

The Jeep slid on the wet roadway and collided with the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Mastrocinque received an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve, according to police.

Highway DUI

State police report that they saw motorist Albelardo Martinez, 48, of Unionville, N.Y., driving a vehicle at a slow speed on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 12:50 am August 17, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police charged Martinez with driving under the influence and also with driving at too slow a speed on a limited-access highway.

After processing, state police released Martinez on $500 bail for a September 1 court appearance.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Luis Cordova, 25, of 83 Main Street was involved in a motor vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84 on the evening of August 12, after which he drove away from the scene.

State police said they later found Cordova and gave him some roadside sobriety tests, after which they lodged charges against him including driving under the influence and driving without a license.

After processing the case, state police released Cordova on $1,000 bail for an August 25 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 7:30 pm August 17 informing them of a red Jeep Wrangler thar was being driven erratically westward on Route 34, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they then spotted that vehicle make an improper turn from Route 34 onto Wasserman Way, so they stopped the driver to investigate.

Police then charged motorist Edwin Diaz, 46, of Danbury with driving under the influence and with making an improper turn.

After arrest processing, police released Diaz on $340 bail for a September 3 court appearance.

Evading

At about 2:05 am August 17, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot at Hot Shots II, a bar at 130 Mt Pleasant Road.

Police said witnesses informed them that the offending driver struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle and then sped away from the scene.

After investigating, police located motorist Chomnan Men, 23, of Danbury and charged him with evading responsibility in connection with the collision.

After processing, police released Men on $100 bail for an August 29 court appearance.

DUI/Vandalism

Police said that at about 11:40 pm on August 17, they received a report that a residential mailbox had been vandalized on Crow’s Nest Lane. The caller provided police with a description of the vehicle that had driven up to the mailbox in the incident.

Police said they found a vehicle matching that description on Walnut Tree Hill Road, after which they stopped it to investigate.

Police said they charged the vehicle’s driver, Satira Moffat, 19, of 4 Dylan Drive with driving under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle, and third-degree criminal mischief. Police said they charged passenger Shea Smith, 18, of 6 Washbrook Road with third-degree criminal mischief.

Police released Moffat on $100 bail, and released Smith on a written promise to appear in court. Both women are scheduled to appear in court on September 3.

Curfew Violation

At about 2:15 am August 12, motorist Dana Spencer Ress, 17, of 32 Oak Ridge Road was driving a 1993 Mercury Tracer station wagon southward near 117 Hattertown Road, when the vehicle went off the road to the right, hit several small trees, collided with some brush, and then struck a large rock, causing the auto to roll over and land in the road, police said.

Ress told police that he was not injured. Both of Ress’s parents went to the scene and declined to have an ambulance respond, police said.

Police issued Ress an infraction for violating the drivers’ curfew for motorists under age 18, and for making an improper turn.

Nissan Down Bank

Motorist Jorge Falcon, 31, of Danbury was driving a 1996 Nissan 200-SX southward on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road, about 6:30 am August 12, when his shoelace got wrapped around the auto’s accelerator pedal and he lost control of the vehicle, police report.

The Nissan went off the right side of the road, struck some guard cabling and then went down an embankment, police said.

Falcon was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for making an improper right turn and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Jeep Vs Deer

Motorist Robert Fosse-Previs, 38, of Milford was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty SUV westward near 151 Berkshire Road about 5:30 pm August 6, when a deer ran onto the road and collided with the Jeep, police said. Fosse-Previs was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Dodge Into Pole

Police said motorist Shannon Tredennick, 19, of Eden Hill Road was driving a 1998 Dodge coupe eastward near 48 Platts Hill Road about 10 am August 19, when an insect landed on her face and she attempted to swat it away, but in the process of doing so, she lost control of the auto, veered to the right and struck a utility pole along the roadway.

Tredennick was not injured, police said. Police issued her an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Motorcycle

Police report an accident involving a motorcycle and a SUV near 237 Hattertown Road about 5:09 pm August 20.

Police said motorcyclist Alton Ozinsky, 50, of Fairfield was driving a 2006 Harley-Davidson FLTRI southward on Hattertown Road, when while negotiating a curve to the right the motorcycle’s tires skidded and Ozinsky entered the opposite lane, colliding with a northbound 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Mary Jo Brett, 66, of 19 Hundred Acres Road.

Ozinsky collided with the SUV’s hood and windshield, but said he was not injured and refused medical transport, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went to the scene.

Police issued Ozinsky an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Warrant

After learning police held a warrant for her arrest, Mary Dunlap, 49, of Brookfield went to the police station on the afternoon of August 20, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, and driving with a defective windshield, police said. The motor vehicle charges stem from a May 16 incident, police said. Police released Dunlap on $500 bail for a September 4 court appearance.

Larceny

Police responded to a report of a larceny at 21 Scudder Road at about 7:18 pm August 20.

After investigating the complaint, police charged Stephen Sackreiter, 26, of that address, with fourth-degree larceny, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, police charged Kristen Hatfield, 24, of that address, with fourth-degree larceny.

Police said they held both people on $300 bail each for August 21 arraignments in Danbury Superior Court.

Tractor-Trailer

Late on the afternoon of August 20, motorist Kathleen Christie, 42, of 28 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan, was waiting at a red traffic signal in the straight-ahead lane of eastbound Church Hill Road at eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp, when a tractor-trailer truck driven by Michael Mann, 50, of Clio, Mich., which was to the right of the Toyota, made a right turn onto the on-ramp, police said.

In making the turn, the truck’s trailer hit the minivan, but the trucker continued onward not realizing that a collision had occurred, police said.

Christie called 911 to report the collision and followed the truck onto I-84, where state police stopped the truck, after which town police investigated the collision. There were no injuries.

Police gave Mann a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
