State Police Respond To Two Prison Incidents

State police report they responded to two separate incidents at Garner Correctional Institution in recent days — one involving an altercation, and the other concerning the discovery of contraband there.

State police said they went to the high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road about 9:18 pm on December 19 to investigate a report of an assault by an inmate.

Inmate Vincent Turnbull, 39, allegedly assaulted two correction officers at the prison, according to state police. The correction officers received minor injuries for which they were treated at Danbury Hospital, state police said.

Turnbull was arrested on two counts of assault on a public safety officer and on one count of refusal to submit to fingerprinting. Turnbull was arraigned on the charges on December 20 at Danbury Superior Court. He is scheduled to return to court on January 13.

Turnbull is serving a one-year sentence at Garner for a conviction on a felony third-degree larceny charge.

In a separate incident, state police responded to Garner on the night of December 15 to investigate the presence of some unspecified contraband that had been found in the prison.

Contraband is any matter in the possession of an inmate which is prohibited.

The case remains under investigation.
