New Admissions Director For Unquowa School

FAIRFIELD — Unquowa School recently announced the appointment of Suellen Hansen to be director of admissions.

“We are all very excited to be able to announce Mrs Hansen’s assumption of the duties of admissions director because she brings such a wealth of talent and experience to the position,” Headmaster Bill Simon said. “It is actually more accurate to refer to her resumption of duties as admissions director because she held the position previously, and very successfully, for a period of six years.”

Mrs Hansen has been a member of the Unquowa School faculty since 1981. She has been a classroom teacher, having taught grades four through eight. She was twice nominated for the Excellence in Teaching Award. She has had primary responsibility for the organization of the upper school curriculum, as well as the lower school science curriculum. For seven years, Mrs Hansen served as director of upper school.

“I am particularly pleased to accept this responsibility because I have such a passion for our school, and I want to convey my knowledge of Unquowa and my enthusiasm for Unquowa to parents who are seeking to learn of private school opportunities for their children,” Mrs Hansen said. “In addition to my service on the faculty and in the administration of the school, I bring a parent’s perspective. All three of my children are graduates of Unquowa.”

Anne Cain of Newtown is the associate director of admissions at Unquowa as well as a parent with children at the school.

“I too bring a parent’s perspective, which goes back 11 years,” Mrs Cain said. “My eldest daughter, Shannon, graduated from Unquowa in 2000, and my youngest, Jennifer, is entering eighth grade. During that time I have seen Unquowa up close from the inside and from the parent’s side. With our new Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, and kindergarten classrooms opening in September, it is a wonderful time to be helping to direct the admissions activity in this phase of the school’s growth.”
