BowlFest Will Be A Festive Fundraiser For Craft Center

BROOKFIELD — As part of its year-long 50th anniversary celebration, Brookfield Craft Center will host its third annual “BowlFest” event on Sunday, May 23, from 1 to 4 pm.

The popular event provides a fresh and fun approach to fundraising. Supporters and friends of the center will be gathering at the craft center’s Lynn Tendler Bignell Studio on its Route 25 campus overlooking the Still River at Halfway Falls. Participants will enjoy fine foods, fine crafts and fine music along with an opportunity to take home their own handcrafted ceramic or wooden bowl made by the center’s students and faculty.

A silent auction of hand-crafted artwork will also take place, and special “50th Year” hats and T-shirts will be available for purchase. Live music will be provided by a variety of local musicians including Frank Kara, Gino Zenobia and Buzz Turner.

Reservations are required; tickets are $50 per person. For more information call 775-4526 or visit BrookfieldCraftCenter.org.

The bowls for BowlFest 2004 were all made at the center by faculty, students and friends who attended weekend “throwing and turning sessions.” Several hundred bowls have been produced in all.

All proceeds from BowlFest 2004 will benefit the Center’s Phase Three Capital Campaign, which is renovating the center’s historic colonial vintage campus. Donations are helping to fund the planned new ceramics, woodworking and paper/bookarts studios and a new Student/Faculty Center. The new teaching studios will enable the Center to expand its educational programs of classes, workshops and tutorials for all levels of ability, from rank beginner to professional artisan.

Brookfield Craft Center is at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 25), just east of the “four corners” intersection with Route 7/202 in Brookfield. The center is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The craft center can be reached at 775-4526 or www.BrookfieldCraftCenter.org
