SHERMAN — Auditions for the first play of The Sherman Players’ 2005 season, Boston Marriage by David Mamet, have been scheduled.

John Taylor of Sherman, who directed Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge last season, will direct Mamet’s drawing room melodrama. He will audition to fill three women’s roles Saturday, February 26, and Sunday, February 27, from 2 to 5 pm, at Sherman Town Hall, on the Knoll next to the Sherman Playhouse, at the intersection of routes 37 and 39 behind the Sherman Firehouse.

Boston Marriage is set in the Victorian era and features a cast of three. Anna and Claire are described as “women of fashion,” who live together in a “Boston marriage,” the Victorian euphemism for a relationship without men.

The third character is Catherine, the hapless Scottish parlor maid.

All three actors should be between ages 20 to 40 and arrive at the auditions prepared to read from the script.

Performances of Boston Marriage will open Friday, April 15, and continue Friday and Saturday nights through April 30. Curtain for the evening performances is 8 pm. There will also be one Sunday matinee. Performances will be at The Sherman Playhouse.

Barbara Rogers of New Fairfield is the producer.

For more information or a script, call Ms Rogers at 746-5626, or John Taylor at 860-354-8543.
